HMRC Forms

pdfCT600 – Company Tax Return form

This form is your end-of-year tax return for your company. You would provide your accounts along with this Return and we would prepare both for you.

The form provides a calculation of your tax liability indicating factors such as your company’s turnover, income and gains along with any tax deductions and reliefs.

Again, as our client we would do this all for you but needless to say we would explain it all in non-accounting speak so you’re comfortable with what’s  been done.

P11D Expenses and benefits

This is a form that you as an Employer would fill out showing expenses and benefits for employees. Obviously, if you’re drawing a salary you may well be both the employer and employee.

Expenses and benefits could include: payments made on behalf of an employee, living accommodation, mileage, cars and fuel charges, loans, private medical insurance, relocation costs and expenses made to or on behalf of the employee.

Again, to confirm, these are items/costs incurred for the benefit of the employee. The Employer would pay Class 1A NI contributions on many of these benefits and the employee would need to pay tax on some these benefits incurred in their personal return.

Please don’t worry about the details – we can guide you through all this and our tax planning and assistance would make sure your tax-efficient.

SA100 Personal Tax Return

In your personal tax return you declare your taxable income and capital gains for the tax year. The latest due would be from 6th April to 5th April 2010.

The form starts with some explanatory guidelines and provides the deadlines for submission and payment. You’re then required to start by completing your Personal Details such as name, contact details and NI number.

The form then explains what makes the return. You need to provide your employment status (Employed, Self Employed in a Partnership).  You’re then asked if you’ve received any foreign income, income from Trusts, UK Property or Capital Gains.

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above you’re then asked to provide details on supplementary pages. You’re also asked if you were not resident in the UK for any part of the year.

Finally, you’re asked to provide any other income such as bank interest, declare any tax reliefs you’re claiming and a few other sections such as indicating your agent (e.g. us!) if you’re using one.

The good news is that as a client we’ll complete your tax return for you at no additional fee. So you can relax, knowing we’re doing all we can to minimise the tax you need to pay.

VAT1 – Application for Registration

This is the form you need to complete if you want to register for VAT. If you are trading as a limited company it can be very worthwhile to register for VAT, allowing you to claim back VAT on purchases and expenses. We’ll advise you.

Anyway, back to the VAT1 form. The form first asks for your status as a business – i.e. sole trader, partnership or company and the relevant registration and contact details. You’ll also need to fill in other details about the business such as the business activities, bank account and details of any involvement you may have in other companies.

You’ll then be asked to provide details ‘About Your Registration’. These will include: details if you’re taking over a going concern, compulsory or voluntary registration, anticipated turnover, VAT repayment and dates. Finally, you’ll be asked to give your details as the ‘applicant’.

Again, as one of our clients we’d complete and submit this form on your behalf.
